Kids and Pets
Q: Can you buy a puppy/kitten in Hanoi? Are there pet supply stores? Are there places to leave pets on holidays?
A: Yes you can buy a dog or cat here and there are plenty of pet shops. Even better, there are organizations that allow you to adopt or foster a pet. There are also pet spas and vets that you can leave your pets with when you travel, including some that offer daycare facilities during the workday. If you would like your housekeeper to care for your pets during holidays, be sure to negotiate this before you hire them. There are several Facebook groups that are helpful in finding a pet.
Q: During the orientation, should my partner come? If so, will we need childcare.
A: We will involve teacher’s partners in some activities during the orientation week (especially during the first days). We will offer child care during those sessions. The orientation calendar will be sent prior to your arrival, so you can plan accordingly. When orientation finishes, childcare will be up to you.
Q: I have elementary-aged children. Is childcare provided on school days?
A: There is a Kids Club for children of overseas hires. Supervision is provided from 7:30-8:00am and from 3:30-5:00pm on school days. There is no childcare provided on conference days or professional development days. You will need to arrange your own childcare at home on those days.
Q: We have children who will be starting UNIS in August. Do I need to contact the Admissions Officer to get the paperwork?
A: The Admissions Office is aware of your children joining UNIS next school year, so please be patient while they are finalizing and updating their application documents. They will contact you with further instructions.
